Technology has a prominent presence in the world we live in and the world that we could live in. It’s everywhere from in our pockets to on the moon, and it continues to shape the way that we learn and communicate. My first introduction to this world of endless possibility was at the happiest place on earth, Walt Disney World.

So, where are the women in AI?

To what extent are there demographic differences in defining cultural appropriation, using fashion in America as a case study? Major magazine industries, such as Vogue and other designer brands, have recently been under fire for using various Asian cultural motifs.

It’s a fine line between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation, a delicate situation, sparking vicious debates up to many contrasting opinions and perspectives. The technical definition of cultural appropriation, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is “the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect this culture.”

Our story starts in a region especially close to my heart, as this is a province from which my parents came. Punjab was split into two during the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. This was as much an ideological partition as a geographical one, and as borders were redrawn, the region's culture was fighting to emerge more whole than the country it lost to.

Has the MeToo movement reached Japan? At first glance, from an outsider’s perspective, the answer would probably be no. However, although the small steps that Japan is taking may seem minute in comparison to other countries, the pace of change is in fact monumental.
