The Sweater Weather Issue
Accepting submissions through December 21st
Concept and Meaning
As the seasons transition into autumn and winter, let us embrace the season of sweater weather with mindfulness and grace. With so much change happening in the outside world, many of us can’t help but feel affected by the weather to a certain extent in our innermost beings. Share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences as a result of this inner and outer shift. Let’s get cozy this season and reflect on what sweater weather means to us!
Mission Statement
Overachiever Magazine is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive online platform which amplifies the voices of AANHPI women, non-binary people, and other gender minorities. This is a safe space for those who find themselves at the intersections between Asian, woman, and LGBTQ identities. We strive to discuss a wide range of topics about AANHPI culture, entertainment, life, and other social issues faced within our community. Together, we will continue to explore new ideas, perspectives, and learn from each other month after month.
Call for Submissions
ART - We want to feature artists’ portfolios. Submit 5-10 original pieces that visually tell your style and story as an artist, your medium, then provide a short statement about your collection and links to where we can view more of your work.
POETRY - We want to feature small poetry collections. Submit 5-10 original poems that speak true to who you are or how you honestly feel—be fearless in how you express yourself. Then provide a short statement about your collection and links to where we can view more of your work.
WRITTEN PIECES - Write an article, review, or personal essay inspired by the theme or one of the prompts below. Themes will change quarterly and prompts will change monthly to keep you inspired for your next submission.
Theme: Sweater Weather
Sweater - Tell us about a specific clothing or food item, form of media, or pastime that is essential to you this season and why. Do you have a favorite sweater or jacket? What is the story behind it or your favorite memory while wearing it? Does this season make you feel cold or warm on the inside? Why?
Weather - How do you interpret the seasonal change of weather? Is it festive or cozy to you? What is the weather like where you’re at? Have you been affected by extreme weather? Do you feel under the weather or are you experiencing seasonal depression? Are you okay? What’s on your mind?
Reflection - What kind of reflections are on your heart this season? Are you experiencing grief or sadness? Does this time of year remind you of someone or something that has happened? What is something that you have learned from this year?
