Paper Ghosts

Hope has no scaffolding

When our history

Decomposes.

Legends are

lost in the ashes from

Pages that scorch

In disbelievers’ hands

Incinerating words

That make them

Feel small.

Listen when ghosts whisper

And let apparitions guide

While you teeter

On the spine

Of the corpse

Of the emptied book.
