July II Issue: Overachievers

Each issue we feature some of our readers to highlight the diversity and stories of Asian women, non-binary individuals, and other gender minorities around the world. Here are this issue’s Overachievers!

Leanne su.jpg

Leanne Su is a second-generation Chinese American woman from Seattle, WA. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan, studying electric propulsion. Her research specialization is in high-power Hall thrusters and optimizing them for higher powers and more robust designs. Outside of academia, she's also a passionate advocate for getting women and underrepresented minorities more involved in STEM; she is involved in numerous outreach programs at her university, and has spoken at multiple conventions encouraging younger women to pursue graduate school and the field of science. When she's not breaking or fixing thrusters, she's usually embroidering, writing, or taking cursed pictures of her cat Pudge. Some of her favorite embroidery subjects include memes, pets, and crass words of encouragement. Both her embroidery and her creative writing have been featured in a number of shows and literary zines. You can find her on Instagram @its.lean, on Etsy @LeansEmbrewery, or on the world wide web at leanne.space/.
