School is now in session!

Fall may be the most imbalanced time of year, with the cheer of pumpkin spice and Halloween entering our lives again, all while having to deal with work and stress piling over our heads. Many look forward to the end of the season and the start of romance and fun during this cold weather, but school and work can be stifling for many, getting in the way of our personal lives. Spending time with family and friends can be great during this season with endless activities to do together; sometimes, being alone and recharging is necessary, too. Here are some tips and recommendations to relieve some of that stress!

  • With the lack of sunshine during fall, waking up during the mornings and heading straight to the kitchen for a warm drink and sitting outside to watch the sunshine is a refreshing experience everyone must try at least once in their lives! It may feel like a silly idea that only your parents or grandparents may do but join them and you’ll see the hype.

  • Picking up a good book, show, or song can be rejuvenating on boring days with nothing to do. Especially for those who don’t enjoy reading, researching books and genres can make reading more enjoyable as long as we know what we like. Here are some personal favorites to get you started! Books: The Cabinet by UnSu Kim, scifi, about a mysterious classified cabinet with stories about strange anomalies around the world (book review coming soon!). Music: “Loved by You” by Kirby, or check out our playlist, “boba? boba,” for a study vibe session. And lastly, a current favorite show to watch on a whim or for some background noise is “Bee and Puppycat,” which can be found on Youtube or Netflix for some inner child healing and calm adult entertainment.

  • Baking can be therapeutic for many but if you can’t bake (like me) searching up some fun and easy cooking recipes can be more exciting than you think! Recipes like gumbo, pasta, and baked salmon over rice are simple recipes that can act as a “healing” service for those overcooked in their own lives. Cute and easy snacks like yogurt with berries, congee, and boiled eggs with rice and salt, are overlooked meals that have a very homely sense to them, plus are quick to make for those drained of their energy.

  • Last but not least, cleaning your space. Everyone knows that in order to feel better we need to be better. Fall can be fun but it can also be the darkest time for some people, especially with winter approaching and the lack of sunshine, which is why we must give ourselves the best space and treatment to focus on our goals. Taking bubble baths and treating ourselves to some treats and shopping sprees can be helpful but cleaning our rooms, bathing ourselves, and taking care of our hygiene are crucial steps to make us feel like human beings again. This brings down the list of “To Do” responsibilities so we can chill in our own space and get closer to our achievements (believe it or not). So don’t forget to shower, clip your nails, take care of your skin, do laundry, and brush your teeth because you deserve to feel clean!

It is important for everyone to take care of their health by recharging before going out and venturing on little extraneous trips, sucking the stamina out of us. Taking a deep breath and settling into our current state and emotions is important for us to feel in touch with ourselves before handling tasks that may require more of our energy.
