Interview with Taara Sajnani

Introduce yourself!

I am Taara Sajnani, the founder of Sajnani Brand Management, an NYC-based branding agency that specializes in working with female entrepreneurs. With a natural love for bringing people and ideas together, I started this consulting agency to help talented female founders elevate their brand through partnerships, influencer marketing, events, brand collaborations and have even modeled for many of them! Throughout my career, I’ve faced similar personal challenges as a female and hope to utilize my talents and network to provide resources and opportunities for other women.

A Long Island native, I graduated from New York University with a BA degree in Psychology, Business, and Management and wanted an impactful career that allows me to help others. Upon graduation, I pursued a career in talent recruitment, working at Snap, Goldman Sachs, and most recently at Google/YouTube.

Outside of work, I volunteer my time as a Board of Director for United Women in Business, a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting and empowering women by helping with fundraising, programming, and mentorship. Additionally, I brand consultant for the Sundara Innovation Fund, a soap recycling non-profit that incorporates community empowerment, female leadership, and hygiene education.

Introduce Sajnani Brand Management —what’s your mission, and how did it start?

My mission is to help female founders elevate their brand; I want more women to tell their story and speak up about the positive experiences along with the difficult decisions and hardships they’ve faced while building their business.

What do you do outside of Sajnani Brand Management?

Outside of SBM, I live in NYC and love spending time with friends and family, working out at the numerous studios in the city, and also volunteer on the board of the United Women in Business Nonprofit as the VP of Programming.

How have you all adapted to life during the COVID-19 pandemic? How is life at home? How is running your company changed during this time?

Life during COVID-19 means living in a one-bedroom apartment; luckily, my boyfriend and I have been quarantining together and splitting the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning, and all of the other day-to-day tasks. We’ve split up the living room and the bedroom into our individual offices and have been retreating to Central Park on daily walks. COVID-19 has given me the opportunity to spend more time focused on digital strategy for my clients; the previous in-person events and panels have now pivoted, and SBM is pivoting with them.

What would you say is your biggest accomplishment? Personally and work-wise?

I’ve been eager to bring on clients for many years, and taking the leap to start a management company has been one of my biggest accomplishments. Personally, I mentored high school students through Minds Matter and recently had the honor of writing one of my mentees her reference letter for Grad School; seeing her get into the top Grad schools in the country and achieve her goals reiterated the time I’ve spent mentoring.

The most important NYC question: What are your go-to coffee shop orders?

I’m a black coffee kind of girl unless it’s iced coffee. I always need to get that with a splash of caramel.

What do you think are the biggest issues Asian American women face today?

I believe Asian American women specifically need to support each other and raise one another up; within our own community, we grow up to be competitive against one another.
