Editor in Chief

  • Sabaitide (she/her) is a serial creative project starter from Santa Barbara, CA who enjoys discovering new ways to utilize her media and writing skills in an ongoing list of side projects. As a graphic designer and website developer, she is passionate about building community and creating opportunities for other Overachievers to pursue their creative callings. On top of leading Overachiever Magazine as the new Editor-in-Chief, Sabaitide is continuing to expand her own art and writing portfolio as she captures the ups and downs of the creative process on her blog where the plotline of her life is that she will write a book someday.

Development Coordinator

  • Olivia Zhang (she/her) is a Chinese American artist and poet. She believes in the power of art, writing, and media in connecting people. Passionate about the intersection of social justice and sustainability, she hopes to continue working with inspiring and creative communities.

Community Coordinator

  • Julia Choi (she/her) is a Korean American writer from Torrance, California. She is a member of different organizations that strive to amplify youths' voices and advocate against the tobacco industry. As well, she is part of her school's Academic Decathlon Team and girls’ golf team. During her free time, she likes to write poetry.

Marketing Coordinator

  • Keira Morales (she/her) is a British-Filipina currently residing in London, England, where she is currently in her second and final year as a Graphic design student in Kingston College, were she wishes to use the subject as a leverage to undertake an advertising career in the near future. In addition, she is an avid fangirl of books with good, sappy love stories, no matter how unrealistic they are to the real world.

  • Evangeline Limputra (she/her) is a Communications Technology student from Jakarta, Indonesia. She aims to one day empower unheard voices using effective message design, especially in the context of Southeast Asian representation. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the drums, going to the cinema, and wrestling religious guilt.

Editorial Coordinator

  • Kelly Lín (she/her) is a South African artist, dabbling in writing, singing and film photography. She graduated from Stellenbosch University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Humanities in 2022. Born and raised in Cape Town, in 2023 she moved to Paris in pursuit of her Masters in Creative Writing. Kelly hopes to use her skills and experience to teach one day, too. In her free time she can be found painting, reading, singing, playing Dungeons & Dragons, picnicking and strolling. If you’re looking for her, locate the nearest garden!

Editorial Intern

  • Sandra Fu (they/them) is a first-generation Taiwanese American who resides in the American Midwest. Double majoring in Data Analytics and Journalism, they aspire to find a career where their identity as a visual storyteller will continue to be crafted with every sentence in a piece and every line of code to be empathetic, informed, and always in the pursuit of the truth. In Sandra’s free time, one will find them taking/editing photos, writing down every single thought, or practicing French on Duolingo.

  • Aerin Fortes (she/they) is a Pinay filmmaker, researcher, and lover. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of English after spending her undergrad fervently studying English and Cinema. While no one should dream of labor, Aerin’s primary career goals include becoming a Professor of English while making short films with an independent production company. She also dreams of learning multiple languages, having a very organized fridge, and laying flat atop a snowy hill feeling at peace.

  • Amulya (she/her) is an Indian-American highschooler and aspiring artist from the Bay Area of California. She loves literature, music, drawing and her skateboard on days when California decides not to rain (again). Amulya uses jumping into pools of water and eating some great food as very healthy coping mechanisms. She hopes to learn how to change people’s minds for the better someday through some well-written paragraphs and bits of humor.

  • Daphne Yuan (she/her) is a strategic content creator dedicated to growing communities and creating inclusive experiences through storytelling, design, and digital products. She is passionate about facilitating conversations around Asian American mental health and well-being topics, with a focus on reducing stigma and improving access to culturally-relevant resources. In her free time, Daphne enjoys being outdoors, visiting artist markets, and attending concerts.

  • Patricia Agtarap (she/her) was born in Manila, Philippines and was raised in New Jersey from an early age. Patricia studied Forensic Psychology and Historical Studies at Stockton University. Working with different nonprofits, Patricia developed skills in communications and logistics. With a passion for history, Patricia’s interest for Asian American stories and legacy has contributed to the larger narrative of representation and hertiage. As an avid reader Patricia has a hard time resisiting buying new books to her already massive bookshelf and growing to read list.

  • Rommie Pintatham (she/her) was born and raised in Thailand and currently undergoing her Master’s degree in Fashion Journalism and Editorial Direction in London. She is passionate about incorporating her background and culture into fashion media to amplify the Southeast Asian perspective within the industry. In her free time, she loves listening to Taylor Swift, trying new restaurants with her friends, and flicking through Architectural Digest.

  • Linh Ly (she/her) is a Vietnamese-Chinese Australian writer and designer based in Melbourne, Australia. Her semester exchange in Los Angeles during university and work within the Human Centred Design space has made her passionate about diversity, Asian representation, gender and economic equality. Linh believes in the power of dispelling myths and assumptions from showing diverse narratives and multi-faceted story telling.

  • Srabondeya Haldar (she/her) has recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History and a minor in Sociology. She lives in two different corners of the world - Bangalore (India) and Wroclaw (Poland). Her travel experiences and education in the humanities have made her keenly interested in understanding how Indian and Asian identities are formed and represented in different media - whether it is journalism, film, or literature. An avid reader, she loves reading and writing about books from around the world. She firmly believes that every story (however big or small) has the unique ability to contribute to the understanding of the world one inhabits.

  • Alexa Gabrielle Empleo (she/her) is a full-time nursing student and a part-time published freelance writer based in Los Angeles, California. Having immersed herself in varying genres of film and literature from a very young age has led her to develop a deeply rooted passion for storytelling in all its forms. In 2023, she proudly established her ghostwriting business and is currently working on three long-term writing projects. Alexa's work has been featured in various publications, such as Local Wolves and Antifragile Zine. When not writing stories or care plans, this Manila native enjoys strolling through art museums and galleries, attending concerts, and complaining about (yet still gladly purchasing) an overpriced matcha latté.

  • Chloe Trinidad (she/her) is a Filipina writer and artist based in the Bay Area, California. She is currently completing her final year of undergrad at the University of California, Berkeley majoring in Media Studies. She is passionate about storytelling most especially in writing, music, art, and film. At the moment, she aspires to create art in any way and hopes that her work will bring more representation to Filipinx creatives. When she’s not writing, she’s bingeing a show, drawing, or dancing to her favorite songs.

  • Sally Fleur Nguyễn (she/her) is a Vietnamese filmmaker and actor. She graduated from Cal State Northridge with a Bachelor’s Degree in Cinema and Television Arts in 2023. Born and raised in Vietnam, she moved to San Francisco Bay Area at 19 and now resides in Los Angeles. She is passionate about filmmaking, writing, acting, studying history of various art forms, and exploring different cultures. When not working or studying, she enjoys reading, watching films, dancing, and playing board games with her family/friends. She can also be found at comedy clubs or museums in her free time.

  • Anusikha Halder (she/they) is a Bengali-American bisexual woman pursuing her Master of Arts in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. She is most interested in studying the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in the context of diaspora, displacement, and Asian-American artistic interventions. Anusikha works to recenter the stories and voices that have been left on the margins for far too long, and hopes to continue this effort through Overachiever Magazine. In her spare time, she loves watching indie movies in independent theaters, writing poetry, going to book stores, and exploring New York City.

  • Charlize Tungol (she/her) is a Filipino-American undergraduate journalism student with a knack for writing about the arts and culture. Her deep love of music motivates her to write about local artists and uplift their voices in a world that keeps them in the shadows. Born and raised in the Bay Area, she loves everything from beaches, redwood forests, overpriced matcha lattes and some good dim sum.

  • Elizabeth Lu (she/her) is currently (very sadly) drowning in college applications, as well as a procrastinator and napper extraordinaire. Her interests include Chinese dramas, writing, and cooking, and she is comfortably proficient in sarcasm, Mandarin, and somewhat in French.

  • Lika Uehara (she/her) is a Brazilian-Japanese writer, researcher, and scholar currently living between Spain and the United Kingdom. She is currently completing her Masters in Children’s Literature, Media and Culture and writing her thesis on representations of Asian American girlhood in Graphic Novels (wish her luck!). In her free time, Lika enjoys doing ceramics, making dumplings, thrift shopping, zine-making, and hoarding way too many books. She hopes to decolonize academic spaces and help Asian American communities ascend, evolve, and heal from intergenerational trauma through storytelling.

  • Roshni Majumder (she/her), from India, is pursuing a research-based Bachelor’s Degree in History. She has a keen research interest in museums, art, and heritage, and how these categories manifest in the South Asian context. As a part of Overachiever Magazine, she is interested in bringing in a South Asian perspective in the larger discussions about social issues and minority communities. She also likes reading, listening to music, drawing, and spending hours on end in museums and art galleries.

  • Tanushri Chidanand (she/her) is an Indian high school senior and creative based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A firm literary enthusiast, she finds joy in deconstructing various pieces of fiction to uncover what they aren’t explicitly saying. She plans to major in Communications in university to expand her creativity and knowledge. Tanushri hopes to someday publish a novel and start a business!

  • Brooke Hines (she/her) is a first-generation Filipino American residing in San Diego, CA. She graduated from San Diego State University in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Digital Marketing Communications. With a strong desire to make a meaningful impact, Brooke is dedicated to advancing the digital space by authentically representing minorities. Currently working in the healthcare industry, Brooke aspires to transition into the marketing field to follow her passion for storytelling, content creation, and project development. In her free time, you'll often find Brooke in the yoga studio, cherishing moments with her beloved dog, or experimenting with new recipes in her kitchen.

  • Gurjot Kang (she/her) is a passionate multimedia journalist and creative who uses her skills in digital media as a source for powerful storytelling and advocacy. Kang enjoys covering stories on youth-led movements, community arts & culture programming, and representation in the South Asian American community. When Kang isn't busy, she likes to relax by rewatching a cozy Studio Ghibli film, like Whisper of the Heart.

  • Michelle Sheen (she/her) is a Korean American creative and storyteller with a background in journalism. Sheen is passionate about amplifying stories about identity and is always learning ways to serve different communities. In her free time, Sheen likes to read, journal, binge-watch TV series, and curate her Pinterest boards.

  • Joanne Kim (She/Her) is a Korean American advocate and writer from Alabama. She will be graduating with a Bachelors in Political Science and a minor in public relations in May 2024. After graduation, Joanne will be attending graduate school to pursue her Master’s in Public Administration, International Affairs, or Political Communication. As a way to amplify voices, Joanne is dedicated to empowering others through education and media. In her free time, she likes to bake, read the books on her “to read” list, or spend time with her loved ones!

Social Media Intern

  • Elizabeth is currently a college student pursuing a Computer Science degree and would like to apply this degree to different areas by exploring the intersection of technology with multiple fields. Currently, she is working towards focusing in software engineering and video game design as she learns more about computer science in college. As she continues learning new things about computer science, she likes being an avid learner towards other things as well, such as astronomy, feminism, neuroscience, sketching/drawing, robotics, soldering, Studio Ghibli animation styles, music, and the electric guitar.

  • Jaylieca Cunanan (She/Her) is a digital marketing student and graphic design enthusiast passionate about growth and storytelling. As an avid social media user, she has witnessed firsthand how social media can help bring people together and build communities, aspiring to help brands do the same while honing her skills. When resting from making her dreams a reality, she likes to catch up on pop culture news, play board games, and read romance books.

  • Madison Foote (she/her) is a queer, mixed race Filipino writer whose passion for media and seeing herself represented in it—along with a love for fanfiction—led her to obtain her BA in screenwriting (with a minor in Asian-Pacific American studies!) from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. When she isn’t writing, Madison can usually be found listening to or talking about Taylor Swift, scrolling through stan Twitter, playing Pokémon, or overanalyzing the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
