Interview with Drea Darby
Drea is a 2nd year Entomology PhD Candidate in Dr. Brian Lazzaro’s lab. She investigates the impact of nutrition on infection outcome in fruit flies, particularly studying the genetic and physiological mechanisms by which dietary sugar shapes resistance to infection. As a Graduate School Dean’s Scholar and Ford Foundation Fellow, Drea serves the Cornell community and beyond as an E-board member of the Black Graduate and Professional Student association, Co-leader of the Diversity Preview Weekend, and co-instructor for the Science of Bias Seminar at Cornell. When she is not advocating for diversity and inclusion in academia or experimenting on flies in lab, she is a plant mom and likes to play video games, watch anime, read comics, and make cosplay.

We are Jing & Monica. We live in Northern California. We have a 7 year old & 2 year old twins. We also have 2 dogs & 3 cats. We worked hard to create this fun & crazy family. It’s worth every emotion & struggle we have been through for almost a decade.

Interview with Laura Gao
Laura Gao is a comic artist and writer based anywhere with good wifi, espresso, and bread! Born in Wuhan, China, Laura immigrated to the U.S. and grew up in Texas. Her work has been featured on NPR, PBS, and her parents’ fridge. Laura’s debut graphic memoir, MESSY ROOTS, about her identity search as a queer Chinese-American in conservative small-town Texas, is coming out in January 2022 with HarperCollins.

EASHA is a 19-year-old New Jersey-based pop artist. She was a finalist at the World Cafe Live Yearly Showcase in Philadelphia and is a regular performer at the Bluebird Cafe.
