Romance Special Feature

Dear OM readers,

Well, another Valentine's Day come and gone. Some of us posted photos of bowls of pasta with heart eye emojis, some of us got flowers and quickly hid them from our parents. The latter is a common joke with many children of strict immigrant parents. It's not borne out of any sort of malice - it's just how they grew up, we explain to some of our increasingly concerned friends - but it is an immigrant kid experience many of us could live without. Outside parents who would ground us for the rest of our lives, or their lives (whichever comes last!), it doesn't get much easier for Asian women. We are fetishized, belittled, and a little bit afraid to go on dating apps. However, it's not all bad, as we see in this special feature. As always, I am thrilled to see the unique takes our brilliant writers have, this time on love. Thank you to the Overachiever Magazine team for making this issue come together and the writers for sharing their stories.

Yours,

Rehana Paul
