Concept and Meaning
When did it become so radical to be a woman of color? At a time where marginalized voices are becoming more and more oppressed, we need you to tell us your side of the story — from your views on current or historical events to other personal reflections. Your voice matters!
Covering the months of April (environment), May (HAAPI heritage), and June (LGBTQ pride), Her Story is a theme intended to retell history from the feminine perspective.
Inspiration Questions
Current Events — Have you ever had to keep your mouth shut during social gatherings when someone brings up politics? Or have you ever felt gaslit by your online feed just because your worldview didn’t align with the mainstream narrative? Do you have a view that has not been covered by the news? (On environmental, political, social issues, etc.)
Historical Events — How does history typically tell the story of your people? Is this narrative correct or is it covering the blatant truth? Rewrite the narrative and tell us about a historical event from your perspective. (On HAAPI heritage, female issues, LGBTQ rights, etc.)
Personal Reflections — How has your Hawaiian, Asian American, Pacific Islander (HAAPI) heritage shaped your identity? Did your parents tell you your family history early on or did you have to put your life story into perspective later on in life? Is there something about your family history or personal story that you’d like to reflect on?
