The Best Beauty Products, as told by Asian YouTube

Beauty Gurus

As kids, we were taught to take care of ourselves. We were taught oral hygiene, how to prepare meals and how to take care of our appearance. It wasn’t until college that I really took care of my skin. I enjoyed putting on my makeup but I knew I had to keep my skin healthy as well. Personally, it was hard to wear makeup if my skin didn’t feel or look manageable. I turned to YouTube for more information about skincare and makeup. It’s true that skincare and makeup is very personal because it is different on everyone.

It’s nice to see people with similar skincare problems or appearance for makeup because you can only imagine how it can work on you. Just because one product works for a beauty guru, doesn’t mean it’ll work on you. I like having recommendations so I can do extensive research on the product and perhaps see if it’s a good match for me.

My skin is sensitive, can be oily and dry in the winter. I have to be careful of fragrances in the products as well. I watch YouTube videos of people who have similar skin problems. A couple of YouTubers I watch are Michelle Choi and Nabela Noor.

“Evening and Skincare Routine” by Michelle Choi

She uses a couple of Asian brand products, which can be purchased online. She uses Heimish All Clean Balm. It’s a Korean brand that launched in early 2016. The product looks simple yet cute and it comes with a spoon so no need to dip your fingers in. You can spread the product all over your face to take off any makeup or for cleansing the skin. This balm is natural, paraben-free and hypoallergenic. It works will all skin types, especially for sensitive skin. The balm goes on as a soil but turns into a milky consistency when rinsing. It can take off your makeup and has citrus herb oils to help brighten and nourish the skin. This product is 120 ml so it’s 4 fluid oz. The price is $19 on Ohlolly.

Black Clay Cleansing Foam

This cleanser helps with removing any residue in the skin by taking off the makeup. The cleansing foam uses charcoal and volcanic ash to absorb any waste from the skin or from left over makeup. You can use this cleanser everyday. It has 3 Black Complex, which removes sebum and blackheads gently to maintain a clean canvas. The smooth texture of the foam produces tight bubbles and can clean pores. On Style Korean the price is $14.30. It is 100 ml and around 3 fluid oz.

Red Earth Pink Coconut Clay Cleansing Mask

The packaging is a beautiful light pink color with black lettering. It’s made with coconut oil and pomegranate extract in order to hydrate skin. The smooth texture doesn’t dry or irritate skin. The mask can help with discarding impurities. It can be found in Target and on Target’s website it lists health facts such as saying the product is paraben-free, petroleum-free and contains aloe. The mask is recommended for acne prone skin, combination, dry and sensitive skin. This contains 100 ml, which is 3.4 fluid oz. The price is $15.

Some By Mi 30 Day Miracle Toner

On Style Korean, the toner has a low Ph so it works well with sensitive, dry and oily skin. You can use the toner in the morning and evening. It’s suggested to use a cotton swab but whenever I use a cotton swab the product never goes on my face. Instead, I use my clean hands to apply the toner. Some of the ingredients contain tea tree, fruit extract, and flower extract. It can be sold as a duo with a matching serum and is $28. It’s 150 ml and is approximately 5 fluid oz.

Tea Tree Oil from Trader Joe’s

After the toner, Choi uses tea tree oil from Trader Joe’s. The tea tree oil can help with acne problems. If you don’t live near a Trader Joe’s then you can also find it on Amazon. It’s made with 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil. It’s an essential oil that’s grown in Australia with antiseptic qualities.          Amazon is selling it for $13.88 and is 1 fluid oz, which is 29.5 ml. It’s small, cute, and easy to travel with. You can use it all over your face or apply it to certain problem areas you may have.

30-day miracle serum by Some By Mi

The bottle has to be shaken to mix the oil and serum. I couldn’t find a description for this product on Style Korean but have seen a video about it. In the video it looks like it’s used for acne prone skin and claims to clear up your skin within 30 days. You can use 3-4 droplets and massage it into your skin. Again, it can be sold as a duo for $28 or sold separately for $22.40. It has AHA, BHA, and PHA which helps removes the dead skin cells.

        Lively by Vita Glow

The mask has vitamins and vitality for dull skin. The mask helps dull skin look more lively and radiant. It has 7 multi-vitamin and vitamin complex of guava, mango and sea buckthorn. Sea Buckthorn is a plant and the seeds, flowers, leaves, and fruits are used to make medicine. The leaves and flowers can be used to treat arthritis and gout. The price is $26 on The Aromatic. The product is a bright yellow color like the sun and is 100 grams.

You don’t need to go and buy all these products if you have them but you can at least try something similar. I haven’t used them yet but whenever I am out of my masks, I’d try out the Red Earth Pink Coconut Clay Cleansing mask. If you’re a beginner, I’d recommend using a face mask, cleanser, toner and moisturizer.

Aside from skincare products, I enjoy watching YouTube videos of people apply makeup. I’m a beginner when it comes to makeup so learning about different products, what it does and how it applies is important in order to consider purchasing it. Another YouTuber I watch is Nabela Noor.

Nabela Noor’s video contains beauty but also has videos like sharing, “My Unreleased Music” and, “The Ugly Truth about Beauty.” The products I will list are from one of her videos, Most of her products are from drugstore brands or can be found at Sephora and Ulta.

Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Palette

This palette is what she uses for a smoky eye. This is best if you’re seeking for a more natural color as opposed to something bright like a green eyeshadow. It’s $27 and has eight matte shades and one shimmer. The color scheme is brown, red, orange and copper.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in the color Tan Sand

Sephora no longer carries this product but can be purchased from Tarte’s website and Ulta and is $27. The concealer has shea butter to help moisturize skin, mango seed butter that helps nourish skin and licorice root is used to help brighten. It is a vegan, blendable and has a full coverage formula.

The color is described as a deep color with neutral undertones. It’s $25 and the cool part about the product is it’s magnetic so if you buy other match stix, you can create your own set. To set her makeup, she uses La Mer Powder. It’s $95 and is 0.28 oz. The powder helps create a flawless appearance.

For bronzing, she used two different bronzers. Bronzer helps to create a sun kissed look.

        Urban Decay Beached Bronzer

Urban Decay’s bronzer has 0.31 oz, which is 9 grams. It is $31.

O!Mega Bronzer Coconut Perfect Tan by Marc Jacobs

This is the second bronzer she used. This bronzer is bigger in size and has 0.8 oz, which is 25 grams. The Marc Jacob Bronzer is $49 but you get a lot from this product for that price. This is another matte bronzer.

        Nars Orgasm Blush

For blush she’s using one of the most well known colors from Nars, which is Orgasm blush. The blush is a shimmery peachy pink color and Noor likes it because it makes her cheeks look rosy and glowy. The price for this blush is $39 and has 0.28 oz, so it’s 8 grams.

        Artist Couture Highlighter

When she wants her cheeks to glow brighter than our grand-daughters’ futures, she’ll use the Artist Couture Highlighter. On the Artist Couture website, there are various highlighters to choose from. These are $38 and most of their highlighters and this is a yellow/gold highlighter that has reflective pearls in them. You can apply highlighter on your cheeks, below the brow, above your cupid’s bow and even your body.

Better than Sex by Too Faced Mascara

The mascara used is Better than Sex by Too Faced. It costs $24 and is 0.27 oz. It’s described as an intense black mascara that curls each lash. On Sephora’s website it said this mascara is the best selling high-end mascara in the United States.

        Lip Products

For the final step in her makeup application, she uses three different lip products. The first one she used is Natasha Denona’s Liquid Lipstick in Melted.

The color is a medium nude brown and it’s $25. It claims to be non-drying, which is great for those of us that have dry lips. She also used Becca’s Ultimate Love Lipstick in Tawny, which is a neutral light caramel color.

The price is $24. She also lines her lips with Becca’s Ultimate Lip Definer in Fearless, a neutral café color. It is $18 and can be found on Becca’s website and Ulta.

I never know how many steps people take to put on makeup or skincare. It’s amazing they have that much patience, I know I don’t. I usually put foundation and a bronzer and I’m good to go. If I want to feel more glamorous then I’d put in more steps. The best part is you don’t have to copy anyone’s routines, just try out the ones that excites you. I appreciate most of her products can be found at Sephora and Ulta because I like trying new products in stores. In the end Noor looked like a beach goddess. Again, no need to go out and buy these products right away but it can be added to your wish list.
